Juniors & Directing
W
ith the bridge season in full swing,
there's an EBED Club Director training
course happening somewhere around
the country almost every week. Congratulations to
Lymington BC which hosted the most wellattended
course in several years, with participants
from both affiliated and non-affiliated clubs across
the area. In the summer there were also three one
day refresher courses for those who wished to brush
up their knowledge after gaining some practical
experience - whether for more complex judgement
rulings or the day to day revokes and leads out of
turn. There's something for everyone in these
courses - and any clubs who would richard@ebedcio.org.ukher the full course or a refresher should write to
richard@ebedcio.org.uk. Details of the current
course list are available on the EBED website

LOTS OF EVENTS FOR YOUNG PLAYERS
The EBED Young Bridge Challenge (including the
Schools Cup) is set for Saturday March 4th, at
Loughborough Grammar School. Gloucestershire
with Oxfordshire will also be following up on last
summer's Wessex Junior event with another
weekend of training and competition hosted by
Cheltenham Bridge Club and Cheltenham Ladies'
College. Over 100 juniors attended each of these
events this year, together with England's junior
squad leaders - and we hope for even more in 2017.
Sussex is also planning to run another Junior Camp
in Summer 2017. Many thanks to all those who
contributed their time and resources in making
these events such a success.
The teaching of minibridge and bridge has
started in a number of new schools this term with
volunteers, equipment and support being provided
by local counties and EBED. More people are taking
part in the English Bridge Junior Award Scheme and
EBED is developing a new Schools Pack to help
promote the benefits of the game within the
educational environment.
Finally, thank you to the 130+ clubs and 2,400
pairs who took part in the EBED Simultaneous
Pairs held over five nights in September, raising an
anticipated £12,000 to fund EBED's work
researching and promoting the health and social
benefits of playing bridge. r
