DIAMOND
ANNIVERSARY
Lowestoft Bridge Club, the most easterly club in
England, has recently celebrated its sixtieth
anniversary. On the night members enjoyed a
pairs competition for the (new) Anniversary
Cup, and a special cake cut by the oldest (94)
and longest serving member, Louis Claydon.
Corks popped and wine was served. The toast
was to the next sixty years! Felicity Hillier
HAPPY BIRTHDAYS
Regular members, Jane Bracher and Joy
Warner, celebrating their 95th birthdays at
the Weald of Kent Bridge club
Miriam may be the bridge club's oldest member
in years, but certainly not in spirit. She plays
regularly in the Wednesday afternoon duplicate
sessions. A special celebration included flowers,
balloons and a cake with sparklers which set off
the fire alarm. A former maths teacher, Miriam
learnt to play bridge in the 1930s. Despite bridge
not being officially a sport, it is clearly doing
some good! Helen Kinloch

Club, who reached her
100th birthday in November
DEVASTATING
FLOODS
Our commiserations go to Eden Bridge Club in
Carlisle which was extensively flooded in the wake
of Storm Desmond. The members are in the
throes of cleaning up and drying out for the
second time in 10 years. Hopefully the club will
soon be playing in temporary accommodation.
