Data is poised to become the real lifeblood-and currency-for
organizations in the future. Those that can tame data volume, velocity
and variability will be best positioned for success.
But harnessing data remains a challenge for most companies. For
instance, in more than 80 percent of the organizations we researched,
50-90 percent of unstructured data goes unused. External data-from
suppliers and other third parties, social media and industry clouds, for
example-further adds to the volume, complexity and diversity of data
that companies could mine to create straight-through processing and
generate breakthrough insight.
