Delcam will promote its wide range of

software and services for aerospace manufacturers

on the Midlands Aerospace

Alliance stand at Farnborough Air Show.

The company offers a range of solutions to

help companies increase productivity,

reduce lead times and improve quality and

consistency, and has been ranked as the

world s leading specialist supplier of machining software

and services by US analysts

CIMdata for each of the past twelve years.

To maintain its leading position, Delcam

employs the largest development team in

the CAM industry to develop a comprehensive range of systems for every type of

machine tool, from simple lathes and 2D

mills, up to the most sophisticated five-axis

machining centres and multi-spindle, turnmill equipment.

The company also develops PowerINSPECT,

the world s leading hardware-independent

software for the measurement of components,

prototypes and tooling against CAD data.

Delcam systems have been used, at some

stage, on virtually every major aircraft programme in recent

years. The company s

customers have undertaken projects in all

the various areas that go towards producing

a successful aircraft, from developing more

fuel-efficient engines, to manufacturing airframe components more

effectively, and

even in designing more comfortable and

more attractive interiors.

They have worked on all scales of project,

from the manufacture of components for

UAVs and helicopters up to the production

of engines and airframes for the largest passenger and transport aircraft.

much heavier predecessors, which were

deflection, INTEX gauges are lighter and

stronger. Our new gauges digital large readouts also make them easier to read.

DELCAM IS TOP SUPPLIER TO AEROSPACE

CAD/CAM SYSTEMS ARE USED WORLDWIDE

Delcam s CAM software is used to machine all

types of aerospace component.

MB Aerospace, the world class provider

of aerospace components, has recently

introduced new measuring technology in

its manufacturing facility as part of its

quest for continuous improvement.

Headquartered in Motherwell, the company s

impressive Flexible Manufacturing Unit (FMU)

has gained a global reputation for the production of complex, low volume, low frequency

demand aero-engine

components.

It works with some of the leading names in

aerospace and itsconsistently high performance standards

have resulted in MBAe

receiving accreditation from several of the

world s largest civil and military aerospace

companies.

In addition to the problems posed in producing challenging large parts, the dimensional

inspection of safety critical, extremely precise

components such as Aero Engine rings presents a further range of complications - and

GTMA supplier Bowers Group is helping.

Eddie Gilhooley, MB Aerospace FMU,

General Manager, explained: Although our

manufactured rings have extremely demanding specifications, many of them are

more

than one meter in diameter. As they need to

be accurately measured whilst being held in

the chuck of a machine tool, our measuring

routines previously involved the use of

extremely cumbersome gauges and consequently were

highly-skilled, time consuming,

although accurate operations.

In accordance with MB Aerospace s quest

for continuous improvements, we recently

identified our ring gauging practices as areas

for potential improvement. Having investigated the available large capacity,

high specification metrology

equipment and performed

a series of demanding GR&R trials, we

decided to purchase a range of advanced

INTEX Beam Gauges and an extremely

accurate Trimos Horizontal Gauge Setting

machine from Bowers.

As our new Trimos instrument has a 1.5

meter capacity we are now able to use it as

a universal master for setting our new

INTEX gauges. Now in regular use, our

INTEX gauges have proven both easier and

quicker to use, in addition to being more

accurate than our previously used instruments.

Machine operators can now very accurately

set an INTEX gauge to the nominal diameter

that they are looking for before performing
