Katie is photographed at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University. It was designed by the Swiss architecture firm, Herzog
& de Meuron, and presented us with a few challenges. Unlike many buildings, no two-floor plates are the same, with two basement floors
and six above ground designed to form 'shifted discs' with cantilevered overhangs, creating a unique effect. Four internal curved concrete
staircases were created and an industry-leading five-storey precast spiral staircase with cast-in electrical services presented a huge
technical and architectural challenge for the team. This is another landmark building created by Laing O'Rourke, and you could
be working on projects like this, even on a Summer Placement.
