Aspiring higher

Innovation and creativity tend to be overused

words in the world of work. But they both

accurately describe the winning entries in the

Learning Technologies Awards.

What is probably harder to spot but is just as

important is the hard work, tenacity and

determination which all the of the gold, silver

and bronze award winners have had to

summon up to produce work that resonates

quality and which has had an impact on

organisations and on individuals.

Learning technology needs such

characteristics; operating in a volatile,

complex and uncertain world e-learning has

to be able to work well with the rest of the

organisation; understand and focus on the

business critical issues; and deliver

performance support tools that provide

benefit and value which can be described and

measured.

Of course the Learning Technologies Awards

showcase and applaud what is best about

L&D from many different industries and

sectors. And all winners deserve their moment

of credit in the limelight. But these awards

have resonance beyond the individuals and

businesses immediately involved. They have

a vital role to play in setting a standard to

which all who work in e-learning can aspire.

Award winning programmes, products and

people may set the bar high but they illustrate

and illuminate what all those involved in the

sector should be trying to do every time they

interact with the rest of the business, or with a

customer to produce a new piece of

technology-based learning.

Award winners should not be seen as a class

apart rather they should be valued as the

champions of a profession, an approach to

L&D and a set of values to which everyone

connected with L&D should be aspiring day in

day out.
