Overview: Built next to Helsinki's main
train station, KPMG's new headquarters
required Steel Mesh Barrier Edge
Protection and the Safety Net Fan to
protect workers, the public and trains.
Tasked with developing a bespoke solution
for the installation of Safety Net Fans as
drilling into the slab was not possible.
Combisafe developed a solution that
enabled all 28 Safety Net Fans to be lifted
into place using a tower crane and
installed in one day.
"As well as protecting pedestrians,
another reason for the safety measure
were the actual railway cars and the
presence of the high power lines. It was
vital that debris didn't fall on the trains,
dislodge the high power lines or
conduct electricity to the people at
ground level. Following a risk analysis,
the Safety Net Fans were lifted to higher
floors to coincide with the forming
activities and to have the netting as
high as possible to catch any debris."
Mikko Kuusisto, Site Manager,
Lemminkäinen.
