3. Radio

Then call the radio stations and ask for the

names of everyone who works in news. Most

stations will have only one or two people handling

news. They rarely leave the station, but

sometimes they conduct telephone interviews.

In most major metropolitan areas, there will be

one or two stations that have a real news staff

that does on-the-scene interviews. By all means

give every news staffer a

card. Find out the names of

producers for the radio interview

and public affairs

shows. Do not send the

card to the on-air host unless

that person also produces the show.

Lesson 2: Don't Wait

For The Media To Call You

Now that you have a

spot in all of the journalists'

telephone index

files, you can sit back

and wait for them to call.

Right? Wrong! Think

like a reporter and an assignment

editor if you

want to become the

quoted authority.

When Ben Johnson was disqualified, our

would be exercise expert I. M. Fitt should have

been on the phone to the local television assignment editors immediately.
