back in May of 1981. I have

fond memories of our humble

beginnings with $100.00 and

a dream which got our entire

operation off the ground and

has guided my life for the past

36 years.

When I handed out the first

copy of then called Flea Market

Forum to vendors in New York

I had no idea of what the

future would bring or if the small 24-page

magazine would have any longetivity in

the marketplace. Now, here we are 432

issues later still publishing and proudly

serving our industry!

OUR Anniversary is very special to me

and I am honored to share it with our

readers old and new as well as our loyal

advertisers who make every issue possible.

I often think back to the early years

when we started, pre-computer and even

fax machine when everything was done

by hand. That included the labeling and

sorting for mailing, the subscription lists,

invoicing by typewriter and old fashioned

typesetting by our gigantic pre-historic

machine that required galleys to be

developed by chemical. Then all layouts

done by hand, pictures screened on a

camera unit and pasted in.

NOTHING was easy in the "old days" and

technology has been both a

blessing and a curse in the

publishing business.

OVER the 36 years I have

worked with many wonderful

customers and office staff.

Many of the high school

students who interned with

us have gone onto successful

careers and family life. All

that have passed through our

doors have felt the entrepreneurial spirit

that pervades our offices, even to this

day. Our company is the epitome of the

American dream that was started with

100.00 and a great deal of ambition and

determination.

ALONG the way, our company went

from starting in a studio apartment in

the Bronx, New York to a one bedroom

apartment in Queens, New York to a

commercial basement in Great Neck, Long

Island to our first "nice" office in Syosset,

Long Island. In 1987 we purchased our

current office building in Centerport, Long

Island where we have been for the last 30

years.

I'VE learned a great deal from the

journey so far and continue to learn every

day. The world has great opportunity for

us all. All we need to do is pay attention

and work hard! Thank you everyone.

WELCOME to

our 36th Anniversary issue of

Retailers Forum Magazine! It is really

amazing how fast time has flown by since our first copy published
