They also inquired about

other parts: chrome fenders,

After a few months

he realized there weren't

enough people who

needed hubcaps to justify

his retail existence. Hub

Central became The Chrome Palace, and quickly

outgrew the flea market to become the source

in the state for vintage auto trim and hubcaps.

That may seem a highly specialized example,

but it demonstrates the kind of thinking that

should guide you in reinventing your store if

you must. You may have the right idea for the

wrong audience, or be approaching a valid

market with a flawed strategy. Review all your

notes about the theory behind your store, searching for the opportunities

you may have missed or

overlooked the first time

around. Rethink the concept,

and begin experimenting again.

YOUR PRE-OPENING CHECKLIST

& SELECTING INVENTORY

If you were fortunate enough to win sufficient

financial endorsement for the store concept, or

if you've reinvented your dream to fit your

budget, you should waste no time in putting

your plan into action. Before embarking on

your quest for funding, you compiled a list of

everything required to put your store in operation.

Now organize those needs into a logical

progression of manageable events.
