Prior's Court is a
registered charity
providing education
and residential care for
young people aged 5
- 25 who have severe
autism and complex
learning difficulties.
Established in 1998 by founding patron
Dame Stephanie Shirley CH DBE,
Prior's Court was designed to provide
the kind of provision she'd have liked for
her own late son Giles.
The young people supported at Prior's
Court are at the most severe end of
the autistic spectrum. Their needs
and vulnerability mean they require
a minimum of 1:1 support, and the
majority live at Prior's Court 52 weeks
a year. All will require a lifetime of
specialist care.
PRIOR'S COURT
What we do . . .
"Bringing up a son with autism made me only too
aware of the lack of appropriate provision. I aimed to
address this shortfall and to provide a specialist school
which would offer the best education and support for
pupils severely affected by their autism.
"Only a specialist approach would enable them to
access their strengths, reach the potential blocked by
anxiety and confusion and so, with support, make the
most of their lives and achieve a level of independence.
The expertise and dedication of the specialist team at
Prior's Court ensure this." Dame Stephanie Shirley
