Guidance and Tuition
We can arrange a professional instructor or guide for you, offering expert fly fishing tuition.
Our guides can help you to get the most from your fishing while you are here with us.
Have a go introduction fly fishing sessions with one of the activities team, for the guests who are new
to the pursuit. These are available in small group numbers. Learn the basics of casting a fly, you may
even land a fish! A chargeable activity at £50pp for 60 mins session.
Fly fishing instruction and coaching take place on the hotel lakes with our fully- qualified instructor.
These sessions are designed to improve your skills in fly fishing if you wish to refine your cast and
learn more experienced techniques. Price is £140, or £95 per person for two people or more for a
2 hour session. If you wish to explore some of our other local hotspots with our instructor such as
Kennick and Fernworthy reservoir, please contact our Resorts Team for prices.
(A minimum of two guests are required for a fly fishing session, with no more than four guests at one
time. There is a minimum age limit of eight years for fly fishing at Bovey Castle).
Permits
Fishing on our stocked lake is year round. Permits are £25.00 for a whole day £15.00 for half day.
The seasons for fishing on the Upper Teign are: Brown/sea trout - 15 March to 30 September Salmon
- 1 February to 30 September. In addition to the estate fishing, Bovey Castle offers angling for brown
trout, salmon and sea trout on many miles of the Upper Teign, a 10 minute drive from the hotel.
Permits for a days fishing cost only £25.00, a personal rod license is needed and can be purchased
from the local post office during opening hours.
