COAL AUTHORITY WEIR DESIGN AND
CONSTRUCTION
LOCATION: Nentberry, River Nent
CLIENT: J N Bentley
In attempting to minimise the environmental legacy of
mining operations in the catchment, the Coal Authority
appointed JN Bentley to design and build a series of check
weirs on the River Nent. The aim was to promote the inchannel settlement
of potentially contaminated sediments
with the objective of facilitating their dredging and removal
from the river system in the future.
WHAT WE DID
• Hydraulic modelling
• Detailed hydraulic design of the solution.

technical fish pass solution within four weeks
of appointment
• A technically robust solution in keeping with the
upper catchment, rural setting of the site.
