Return of three-day Structured
TEACCHing course
A group of Prior's Court
staff members have
successfully completed
further autism specialist
training.
The group completed a three-day
'Structured TEACCHing based
on the TEACCH model' training
course.
These sessions were run by
three senior members of Prior's
Court staff - Sue Piper, Sarah
Butcher and Ruth Over, all of
whom are Certified TEACCH
Advanced Consultants - with our
team of Speech and Language
Therapists who supported the
communication sessions.
It was the first time this course
had been taught in-person in
three years, and much of the
content had been completely
re-written to better engage those
taking part.
Sarah Butcher, our Director
of Young People's Wellbeing,
said: "This was a really receptive
group who enjoyed the mixture
of workshopping, designing,
practical discussions, and applying
the theories they learned.
"It also served as a really good
reminder of why these Structured
TEACCHing training sessions are
so important
for our young
people as it gives
us the tools to make
their lives easier."
Prior's Court is committed to
ensuring staff are properly trained
and that their training is kept as
up-to-date as possible to ensure
the best possible care is given to
our young people.

Out and about in the community
Our young people continue to enjoy
wonderful experiences out in the
community thanks to the support of
Prior's Court's amazing staff teams.
Selected achievements in recent months include:
l Young adults
James and Shaun
had a wonderful time
meeting Woody from
Toy Story, Darth Vader
from Star Wars, and
even Marvel's Ant-Man
on a trip to Disneyland
Paris. Going on rides
and tucking into tasty
treats meant the duo
had an action-packed
stay.
l James and Shaun's
housemate Wilsan
had his own success
closer to home, going
out to the Co-Op on a shopping trip for the first
time. He was sent with a visual list of five items he
needed, and was allowed to buy two items of his
own choosing. He even waited
until he got back to have one
of his items.
l Summer House's Taran
achieved something his
Autism Practitioners had been
working towards for a while: he
went on a train journey. Taran loves
trains and had been asking to go on
one for a while, and with preparation
and support, Taran took a train from
Basingstoke to Reading and back again. He
had an absolutely wonderful time!
l Young adult James,
from Charlotte
House, experienced
a day out in London
seeing some of the
sites and visiting the
Hammersmith Apollo
theatre to watch
Winnie the Pooh the
musical. He even
enjoyed a meal out
afterwards.
