Music to the ears in special workshop
CEO receives OBE
Our Chief Executive Mike Robinson
has been presented with his OBE,
after being named in the 2022 New
Year's Honours List.
Mike traveled to Windsor Castle to receive
his gong, which was awarded in recognition
of his services to children and young people
with autism, including his work done at Prior's
Court.
Appropriately, Mike's award was bestowed by
Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, who has
twice previously visited our site - she was at
the official opening in 2000 and came for our
20th anniversary celebrations in 2019.
Among the group also receiving their awards
alongside Mike was Olympic gymnast Max
Whitlock.
A start-up which is aiming to maximise the power
of music-making has paid a visit to Prior's Court.
Digit Music offered our young people an inclusive and accessible
music workshop, using their "cmpsr" instrument.
Based on a computer joystick and hooked up to an iPad,
the instrument allows people to explore different tones and
pitches and how they sound played on different instruments.
Alice Chesterman from Digit Music said:
"Traditional music making and
traditional instruments can be very
difficult and very complicated
and can end up putting
people off making music.
"The reason the instrument
was designed and the
notation system around it
was to enable more young
people to enjoy music more
quickly and then hopefully to
continue making music into
their adult lives."
