Issue 32 - June 2019

Meeting Minds

Meet Stephen Lawley a volunteer

at Creative Support's new hub

in Yardley.

What has helped you in your

recovery journey?

I was diagnosed with anxiety

and depression, which started

in 2012 after I was held at gun

point. I went to art therapy and

after was referred to Creative

Support. When the new hub

opened I wanted to be give back

to the people who helped me,

and applied to volunteer as the

kitchen assistant. Working in the

café has helped me a lot with my

confi dence. I learnt to be more

patient with people and found my

passion for food again!

What do you do to keep active?

I play in a paintball team. I travel

around the country to play with my

old school friends.

Name three things that help to

keep you well.

H2O, healthy meals and staying

active! Volunteering has helped

tremendously with my mental

health. I enjoy chatting to people

and making them food. The

lasagne we make is the best!

Come along!
