Visiting
There should be a maximum of 2 visitors per patient at any one time.
Visitors are requested not to send or bring in flowers, fruit or other perishable items as these cannot be stored on the ward. Whilst mobile phones are permitted on the ward, the taking of photos or recording of material is not permitted. If you do wish to do this, please speak to a staff member.
As infection control is a priority on our ward, visitors are requested to wash their hands or use the alcohol gel rub before and after visiting patients. Please follow the guidelines in place.
Visitors are also asked to be aware of patients’ vulnerability to infections and should seek advice before visiting if suffering from a cold, flu, infection, vomiting or diarrhoea.
Smoking
This trust operates a smoke free policy in the hospital and its grounds. We appreciate your co-operation with this.
Smoking can slow down and affect the rate of healing post-surgery. Therefore we recommend that you consider giving up smoking. All patients that smoke or use e-cigarettes will be referred to the smoking cessation service when they attend for pre-op assessment.
Patient consent
Prior to your surgery we aim to fully inform you of all aspects of the procedure. We then require you to ‘consent’ to the procedure in writing before proceeding.
If at any stage you require further clarification or information regarding your procedure, please feel free to ask and we can arrange appropriate consultation.
Data protection
Your details will be entered onto our computerised database and also the National Joint Registry (NJR). This enables us to keep up to date and effective clinical records and also aids us in developing and improving our service.
All details that we store will be kept confidential and safe. If you, or a representative wish to see the information that we hold, then a formal request can be made for access to this information.
