14 A resource
for housing
providers
THE RSPCA
The aim of this guide to good practice is to provide
general advice for housing providers regarding
pets. It is by no means a comprehensive manual,
nor does it try to be. However, the RSPCA is the
largest, oldest and best-known animal welfare
organisation in the world and we have a wealth
of knowledge and experience for you to tap
into - not only from our inspectorate, but from
education officers, scientists, public affairs and
campaigns teams, branches, animal centres and
hospitals (serving both England and Wales).
RSPCA 24-hour cruelty line:
0300 1234 999
The RSPCA has a dedicated line for reporting cruelty and
welfare concerns that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days
of the year.
The call team also deals with emergencies such as trapped
or injured animals. The call is tasked to a member of the
inspectorate to investigate.

Services for local authorities and
housing providers
The RSPCA's local government adviser can provide further
information on specific areas of animal welfare-related
issues that relate directly to local authorities and other
housing providers, such as hoarding, living with wildlife,
and deterring pests. We can also provide information that
indirectly impacts on housing providers, such as emergency
planning, stray dogs, status and dangerous dogs, and
hoarding. In addition, we can provide briefings on key
politicalaffairs@rspca.org.ukmals, on request
Our local government adviser can put local authorities
and housing providers in touch with the RSPCA chief
inspector for their area.
