Last year, Richmond Council held a series of Community Conversations for
every ward in the Borough to discuss the future of their local high street. The
conversations gave residents the opportunity to talk about what they like
about their high streets and to share their vision and ideas for the future. The
overwhelming piece of feedback was that residents love their local independent
shops and want to see more of them in their area.
Shopping locally is a way to create a unique neighbourhood.
There are so many benefits from shopping on your local high street, such as building relationships within the community and helping
support the local economy while creating a more vibrant and unified neighbourhood.
When buying from business owners you trust, shopping experiences become more enjoyable because you know where the product is
coming from, and you know the people behind it. Many of those goods and services are sourced and crafted locally as well. This means
that many of the pieces are one of a kind and carry a unique story.
Everything has a story to tell - help tell that story
Visiting local shops and choosing to spend locally gives you the opportunity to network and get to know your neighbours. Making
connections with people and businesses helps boost your high street through word of mouth and creates the unified community we all
benefit from.
Shopping locally benefits the economy
You have the power to make sure your local businesses not only survive, but thrive.
