Making inferences
We need to make inferences when we cannot find the answers to some
questions directly from the reading text. We can follow the steps below:
Where is the shower room?
It is on the floor.
Time flies! I cannot believe that I will soon leave my primary school,
where I have studied for six years. I still remember the first day of
school. Our class teacher Miss Lee asked us to introduce ourselves.
My face blushed when it was my turn. The girl who sat next to me
encouraged me to speak up. She is Kelly. We have been best friends
ever since.
How long has the writer been friends with Kelly?
A one year C six years
B five years D over six years
The writer has studied at this school for six years. She knew Kelly on
the first day of school. This means that they have known each other
for six years.
Zoe: Judy and I share the bunk bed. Sometimes I'm annoyed with her.
She plays all kinds of sports. After doing sport, she just sits on her
bed without taking a shower or changing her clothes!
Sam: You can't blame her. Your room is on the ground floor. It's a bit
inconvenient to climb three floors for a shower.
Zoe: Please don't tell me you boys go to your room all dirty and
smelly too!
