industry with the bonus of getting to MIPIM on two wheels. The event is gruelling, but it’s done as a
team – cycling as a peloton and at the pace of the slowest rider. With a full support crew, moto
outriders, mechanics, sports masseurs and Tour bus, it’s the closest you will get to riding in a
professional peloton. The rolling road closures make the riding smooth and faster than usual, with
minimal interruption. During the 1500km participants will cycle in teams, and from the start to the
finish a baton will be carried continuously. Last year this was presented to Boris Johnson on arrival at
MIPIM. However, the networking, brand exposure and cycling begins before the riders gather at
London’s City Hall to start their ride. There are training rides on the weekends, a Wednesday morning
ride in Regents Park and there’s also spinning classes to get those legs ready.
The 1,500km is split into six days, and a further six 55km stages on average each day. Cycling as a
team, members ride two of the stages as a minimum, but the individual can ride as many stages as
they like. Some choose to really challenge themselves by riding the entire event. The route and
length of each day is as follows:
• Day 1 London to Folkestone 115km
• Day 2 Calais to Reims 320km
• Day 3 Reims to Dijon 315km
• Day 4 Dijon to Valence 315km
• Day 5 Valence to Aix 255km
• Day 6 Aix to Cannes 180km
Andy Downey, partner at Elliott Wood, a Team Sponsor this year, said: “CYCLE TO MIPIM is a
marvellous event. Cycling is of the moment and suits the construction industry. Half our office cycle
to work each day, turning up in lycra so we had to sponsor it. It’s a great challenge, there’s great
camaraderie and anyone can cycle it, making it inclusive. I urge anyone thinking of doing it, to do so.”
