CZECH
INDEPENDENCE DAY
Czechoslovak independence was declared
on Wenceslas Square on October 28, 1918,
beginning a new era for two nations which had
previously been part of the Austro-Hungarian
Empire. Also known as Foundation of the
Independent Czechoslovak State Day, this
holiday commemorates the date in 1918 when
Czechoslovakia was created. Despite the Czech
area being an industrialized region and Slovakia
being a mainly agricultural-based country, the
two regions took the opportunity to become a
new nation.
All of the
Austrians
celebrate this
in memory of
freedom and
peace and like
me, spend the
day with family and friends with a
typical lunch and enjoy the good
time."
In our
countryside
traditions
are still alive.
Families are
gathering
at the
square in folk costumes and are
singing, dancing, and enjoying the
atmosphere."
For me
personally,
this day
celebrates our
independence,
reminds me
how strong
and powerful my country has been.

AUSTRIAN
NATIONAL DAY
Austrian National Day is celebrated on October
26th. This is the day on which Austria stated
its neutrality and decided that it will not be
involved in any military alliances and won't
allow any military bases to be established in its
territory.
This day is also celebrated as Day of the
Austrian Flag and declares the re-establishment
of Austria's sovereignty after World War II.
This decision for neutrality became part of the
national consciousness of the Austrians.
Every year, the Federal Government celebrates
this day with a series of events in Vienna.
These events include the Federal President
honoring the victims of resistance, swearing
in new recruits, a festive meeting hosted by
the Council of Ministers, the Federal President
addressing the population, and more. "
