LABOR
DAY
ROSH HASHANAH |
JEWISH NEW YEAR
In the United States, Labor Day is celebrated
with public and private gatherings including
parades, picnics, and barbecues, and is often
seen as an indication of the end of summer. This
federal holiday was signed into law in 1894 by
President Grover Cleveland to pay tribute to the
contributions and achievements of American
workers.
Rosh Hashanah is a special festival which
celebrates Jewish New Year and marks making
a fresh start. It literally means "head of the
year." This year, Rosh Hashanah begins at
sunset on Monday, September 6th. This is
because the dates of Jewish festivals come
from the Hebrew Calendar so the Jewish New
Year begins in Autumn, as opposed to January
1st.
Rosh Hashanah is a time for people to reflect
on the past year, ask for forgiveness for
anything wrong they feel they have done, and
think about their priorities in life. The festival
also marks a time of judgment, when Jewish
people believe that God balances a person's
good acts over the last year with their bad acts
and decides what the coming 12 months will be
like for them.

INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF CHARITY
The International Day of Charity was
established in 2012 with the objective of
sensitizing and mobilizing people, NGOs,
and stakeholders all around the world to
help others through volunteer work and
philanthropic activities. The date of September
5th was chosen in order to commemorate the
anniversary of the passing away of Mother
Teresa of Calcutta.
"Our MK Employees
from our Vero Beach
Outlet 238 store
kept this day alive
by turning their
volunteer time off
into a group activity
in June. They helped
deliver produce,
canned goods, rice, meat, and dairy in drivethru fashion
to 106 vehicles. It was a wonderful
and humbling experience. They have decided
to continue helping each month as the program
delivers goods and will encourage the whole
team to join."
