CHINESE MIDAUTUMN
FESTIVAL
Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on
the 15th day of the 8th month in Chinese lunar
calendar, which is always in the middle of the
autumn season in China. This traditional festival
is the second-most important holiday after
Chinese New Year with a history dating back
3,000 years. The day is also known as the Moon
Festival, as at that time of the year, the moon is
believed to be at its fullest and brightest.
In Chinese culture the full moon symbolizes
reunion, so people often celebrate by reuniting
with their families, appreciating the moon
together, making and hanging lanterns, having
feasts, and sharing mooncakes. Mooncakes are
the hallmark food of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Usually round to symbolize the full moon and
family reunion, they are a type of sweet or
savory pastry made with various fillings like
nuts, sweet bean paste, lotus root paste, fruit,
ham, roast pork, and more.
"The meaning of the

is to celebrate the
reunion of relatives, a
symbol of the Chinese
reunion culture has
been spread, as well
as carry forward the
respect for the old
and the young and being grateful to parents.
People celebrate the festival by appreciating
the moon, watching lanterns, and eating
mooncakes."
"The Mid-Autumn
Festival is a good
occasion for family
reunions. During the
Mid-Autumn Festival,
family members and
friends often gather
together to share
a meal, admire the
moon, and enjoy mooncakes. Today, people
celebrate the reunion of lovers, relatives, and
friends by enjoying the full moon and eating
the mooncakes."
