undertaking household chores such as using washing machines and dishwashers,
sorting laundry and tidying bedrooms; learning to share; and developing a sense
of family and community.
Learning objectives are consistent across both education and residential settings
and focus on communication, behaviour management, cognitive, vocational,
social and personal skills, therapy, and building independence. The collaborative
process involves education, residential and night teams, therapy and multidisciplinary
staff working together with specialists and parents/carers to ensure
consistency.
Vocational skills development:
Life skills are developed with a strong vocational focus throughout the School.
Older students are placed into two of six 'vocational streams' in which they are
taught specific vocational skills - this is alongside classroom-based teaching.
Work placement-relevant skills and experiences are developed within the
streams, with a view to ensuring employability after the young person's time at
Prior's Court School.
The vocational streams are Housekeeping; Administration and Finance; Business
and Retail Enterprise; Land-based (husbandry and horticulture); Catering and
Hospitality; and Trade Skills (such as woodwork and metalwork).
Opportunities are identified for projects and work placements both on-site and
off-site to support and, depending on the young person's abilities and interests,
