All young adults will also have cognitive impairment which may make them
more vulnerable and can further impact their ability to make sense of the
world around them.
Additionally, young adults may have:
• Challenging behaviours - due to the difficulties the young adults have
understanding the world around them, they may demonstrate
challenging behaviour requiring support to develop coping and selfmanagement
strategies and to maintain their safety in crisis situations.
• Additional associated needs including ADHD, epilepsy, mental health
and other medical needs.
Prior's Court Young Adult Provision was created to meet the continuing
exceptional needs of these very vulnerable young adults who have a
combination of complex and challenging needs. To fully support our young
people in a person-centred way, all staff are fully committed to working in
accordance with Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
and have training in this area.
Young people who are approaching the end of their school life and those who
have reached the age of 19 years when formal learning stops still require
ongoing support from specifically qualified experienced staff within a multidisciplinary
team (which includes support workers /Autism Practitioners, speech
and language therapists, occupational therapists, a positive behaviour support
team and further practitoners) to maintain their developing life and vocational
skills.
These young adults will require high levels of support in all areas including
personal care needs.
Aims and Objectives

• To provide a safe and nurturing environment which ensures the young
adults to be safe and healthy and enables them to participate in a living
