10. Provision to support children with special educational
needs.
All young people at Prior's Court School have a diagnosis of autism and moderate
to severe learning difficulties and complex needs. All have, or are awaiting, an
Education Health and Care Plan.
As an autism-specific school, Prior's Court is able to focus on meeting the special
needs of its young people in the most effective and consistent way to support
their learning.
• The environment is specially adapted to meet young people's needs - it is
calm, tranquil, safe and individualised, to provide opportunities to learn,
exercise, socialise and relax onsite, while supporting transitions and the
strong focus within our approach on physical exercise and the
development of leisure and vocational skills
• Prior's Court School's commitment to autism expertise means that staff are
trained and experienced in using a range of methodologies and strategies
to support each individual's needs and development in all settings
throughout the Waking Day.
• There is a large on-site multi-disciplinary team for 52 weeks of the year,
providing therapeutic and health support, including Occupational Therapy,
Speech and Language Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support and Nursing,
able to provide support throughout the school day and in residential
settings, as well as out in the community.
• Our provision focusses on meeting the special educational needs of the
young people with an emphasis on creating meaningful and functional
learning opportunities which build on each individual's strengths and
interests to provide a person-centred approach.
• This Is Me plans provide a single, dynamic, digital location for all care and
education planning documents for each of our young people. This Is Me
plans identify care delivery needs which are linked to daily diaries allowing
for live tracking, celebrating progress and learning development across all
settings throughout the Waking Day, via our I Can statement system of
progress measurement. Constituent parts of the This Is Me plan - such as
key persons in the individual's Circle of Support, individual care and
learning plans, Positive Behaviour Support plans, protocols and risk
assessments - are reviewed regularly by specialist, experienced staff across
our multi-disciplinary teams. This is to ensure a young person's learning
targets are appropriate and their achievements celebrated.
