Q. What habits and strategies are positively contributing to your current work-life balance?
A. I've made small changes to my daily routine that
allow for me to have some time to myself throughout
my workday. For example, I make an effort to take
some time to get up, walk around, grab a coffee, and
then get back to work. Doing this helps me clear my
head and gets me moving from my computer. I also
try to start my day with movement whenever possible. Whether it's walking the dog or working out
before my day starts, this sets me up for success for
the day.
Q. What were your previous challenges that you
faced before you made a more intentional step to
creating work-life balance in your life?
A. I used to have a really hard time disconnecting
from work. I was constantly checking my phone
and my email during off hours out of the fear that I
was unaware of something important. I now make
a concerted effort to limit the time I spend on my
phone or work email outside of working hours. I set
time aside to go through my email to make sure I'm
not missing anything critical, but I ensure to do this
during business hours.
Q. What was the biggest driver or priority that inspired you to make
a change in your life?
A. To reduce my overall stress levels. Finding a balance between my work and personal life has allowed
me to work through some of the items that were
causing work stress outside of my workday.
Q. What are the key characteristics of your new
routine?
A. The biggest key for me is actually sticking to a
routine. I structure my weekends in such a way that
allows me to have time for myself in the morning
before starting the day. As long as I have time to hydrate, get moving, and get a cup of coffee once I've
gotten ready for the day, I know I'm off to a good
start. Knowing when to shut down for the day has
also been a big step in the right direction in terms
of finding the perfect work-life balance. This has
helped create time for myself and my family in the
evenings as well, which wasn't always the case.
Q. What is one goal that you want to continue to
work on re: work-life balance?
A. Maintaining my current work-life balance now
that the world is starting to look like it did preCOVID. It's easy to prioritize yourself when there's
nowhere to go, but when you start having to plan
your day around travel or heading back into the
office, it takes more effort to maintain your good
habits.
Q. Capture the essence of your work-life balance in
one sentence!
A. A work in progress!
