New Year's resolutions can sometimes feel forced
and somewhat daunting. Whether you feel that you
have to make a few because everyone else is, or it's
"tradition" - these types of goals most likely aim to
change or improve your lifestyle in ONE particular
aspect of your life. These goals are often very
focused on changing or improving a specific behavior
or habit, but rarely encourage wellbeing across many
different areas at once (social, mental, physical,
financial, etc.)
Luckily, New Year's Resolutions aren't the ONLY
way to enact change in your life.
We asked our Wellbeing Champions how they
approach self-improvement, wellbeing, and tackling
resolutions in a more holistic way - across all areas
of life - and beyond the New Year season.
Hear from Robyn Armfield, Junior Merchandiser -
Women's Accessories, Michael Kors EMEA, on her
way of embracing self-improvement and committing
to improving her wellbeing year-round.
THIS YEAR
"This year, my Mum decided that rather than
choosing a resolution, she was going to pick a word
and stick to in all aspects of her life; work, decisionmaking, her social life, etc.
I loved this way of looking at and approaching the
New Year.
Personally, I have chosen the word 'BRAVE' to start
the year, and hope to apply it in the following ways:
TO BE BRAVE IN MY CAREER, PUSH MYSELF OUT
OF MY COMFORT ZONE AND DEVELOP MYSELF
FURTHER.
TO BE BRAVE IN DECISIONS THAT I MAKE IN MY
DAY TO DAY AND COMMIT WITH CONFIDENCE
TO BE BRAVE IN DECISIONS FOR MY WELLBEING;
SAYING NO, TAKING TIME OUT FOR MYSELF, NOT
BEING SO HARD ON MYSELF, ETC."
This is also a great way to bring your teams together
and promote that community feeling. Robyn tried
this activity with her team, and it was a hit:
"I recently put this out to my team for them to get
thinking on words they would live to embody for the
year - not only personally, but also as a team and
in a professional sense. It was and still is a hot topic
of conversation, something we all really wanted to
ensure we could commit to equally and do justice,
be it big or small."
