The Islamic New Year, also known as the Hijri
New Year, is the day that marks the beginning
of a new lunar Hijri year. Muslims across the
world will welcome the Islamic New Year which
will mark the beginning of Muharram - the
first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Since
it is based on the sighting of the new moon,
it changes every year. The Islamic New Year
determines the dates of the three major Islamic
celebrations Ramadan, Eid al Fitr and Eid Al
Adha. The New Year also honors the emigration
of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, which
was known as the Hijrah and gives the first day
of the year its name.

QIXI
(CHINA)
"The Double Seventh Festival (Qixi Festival) is
one of Chinese traditional festivals, and also
known as a Chinese Valentine's Day. It falls on
the 7th day of the 7th Chinese lunar month. In
2021 that's August 14th. It's based on a romantic
legend about a weaver girl and an oxherd.
An oxherd Niu Lang with the help of his ox (the
demoted cattle god) married a fairy, Zhinv, who
became a weaver girl. Zhinv's mother, a goddess,
returned Zhinv to heaven. Niu Lang pursued
using the ox's hide. The goddess separated
them by a river of stars (the Milky Way), but
magpies were allowed to form a bridge for them
to meet once a year (Qixi). The festival has been
celebrated since the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220
AD). The romantic legend of Niu Lang and Zhinv
has taken deep root in the hearts of Chinese
people. It probably always will be told from one
generation to the next.
My wife and I have known each other for 11 years
and married for 6 years. For me, I must say I'm
glad my wife is not a real "fairy", we can meet
every day."
