NATIONAL UNITED
NATIONS DAY
National United Nations Day was established
in 1945 after the end of World War II. It is
celebrated annually on October 24th.
The United Nations is an intergovernmental
organization whose primary role is to maintain
world peace and security. This organization
plays an important role in developing friendly
relations among countries and help achieve
international cooperation. Its main objectives
are to maintain international peace, protect
human rights, deliver humanitarian aid,
promote sustainable development, and uphold
international law. This year we celebrate 76
years since 50 governments began drafting the
UN Charter. Today, 193 countries are part of the
United Nations.

WORLD
FOOD DAY
World Food Day was first launched in 1945.
The reason World Food Day was created
was to celebrate the launch of the United
Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization.
The main principle which World Food Day
celebrates is the furtherance of food security
all over the world, especially in times of crisis.
Its annual celebration serves as a marker
of the importance of this organization and
helps to raise awareness of the crucial need
for successful agricultural policies to be
implemented across the world to ensure there
is ample food available for everyone.
In 2013 Michael Kors launched "Watch Hunger
Stop," partnering with the United Nation's
World Food Programme to help fight world
hunger. To date, Michael Kors has helped WFP
deliver over 17 million meals to hungry children.
Starvation is a massive problem in several
countries, and we need to do more to raise
awareness and combat this problem. One of
the best ways to celebrate World Food Day is
by giving food to people who need it the most.
If you do a quick search online, you should be
able to find the nearest food bank to you. Most
food banks are going to accept food or money.
The sort of food that is in a typical food parcel
includes biscuits, tinned fruit, tea, coffee, tinned
vegetables, tinned meat, beans, pasta sauce,
rice, pasta, soup, and cereal.
We can also use World Food Day to raise
awareness about healthy diets and what our
bodies need. World Food Day gives us a great
opportunity to further education and awareness
in this area.
CHUNG YEUNG FESTIVAL
(HONG KONG)
Chung Yeung Festival is a special day for
ancestor worship. The Chung Yeung Festival
falls on the 9th day of the 9th month in the
Chinese calendar, which is why this holiday is
also known as the Double Ninth Festival.
During the Chung Yeung Festival, people
mainly go hiking to high points of the city and
visit the graves of their ancestors to pay their
respects. This age-old custom dates back to
the Han dynasty when a man, Huan Jing was
advised to accompany his family and go to the
high ground on the 9th moon's 9th day. They
survived a mass slaughter that killed everyone
else in that village, but because he heeded this
advice and was not in the village along with
the other members he survived. This explains
why many people go hiking on that day, hoping
to emulate Huan Jing and benefit from some
of his good fortunes. Other activities include
spending time with family, flying kites, making
flower cakes, having picnics, and more!
