WHAT DOES THIS
MEAN FOR PRIVATE
LANDLORDS?
BTR may still be a relatively new
concept, but it is raising the bar for
renters and giving them options.
Private landlords still have a major
role to play in the rental sector and
can be reassured that BTR isn't for
everyone:
• Some renters value their privacy
and are not attracted to the
'community' aspect of BTR
• BTR is currently aimed at the
higher end of the rental market
• BTR is still concentrated in a
relatively small number of areas
and is often absent in highly
popular central and prime areas
However, landlords and their
lettings agents do need to take
note of why BTR is appealing to
many renters and what this means
for their offering:
• Quick wins may include installing
bike storage and allowing pets
• Giving renters reasons to remain,
including speedy resolution of
issues and regular maintenance
• Alerting renters to amenities
within a few minutes' walk,
particularly those offered by
competing BTR developments,
including gyms and swimming
pools, green space, accessible
parking, co-working office space
and cinemas.
