Young Adult Learning Centre
Daily access to the Young Adult Learning Centre and education provision of
Prior's Court School further supports the range of vocational and life skill learning
opportunities.
Individuals have the opportunity to access a range of activities following their
identified streams and person-centred timetable within the young person's
Waking Day. The Learning Centre consists of a main learning base equipped with
an interactive smart board which supports individuals in all areas of learning,
from PSHE and life skills through to money management and office-based
computing skills, dependent on the learning goals of each individual.
A sensory and relaxation room has been incorporated into the building to
enable each individual to explore their own sensory needs and to facilitate the
learning of self-relaxation and calming skills.
A multi-functional activity room and adjoining work room provides the
opportunity for individuals to learn and practice a variety of vocational and life
skills from art, design and woodwork to mini-enterprise projects such as the
making and selling of products, and taking part in business fulfilment-type
jobs. An office area provides further opportunities to develop office and ICT
skills. The Learning Centre has a horticulture area with polytunnel and raised
beds providing the opportunity to grow seasonal vegetables and flowers which
are then sold as part of the mini enterprise activities.
The Learning Centre also has an attached garden and an adjacent paddock
and recreation area for the development of social, leisure and exercise
activities.
