Sequencing events રΐԫϣҏ
To sequence events means to put the events in the correct order.
Time phrases show the order of events, e.g. at 8 a.m., in the
morning, after dinner. Pay attention to these words in the text.
Example (Reading 4, Practice point, Question 4)
Amy is busy at the weekend. On Saturday, she has English writing
lessons in the morning. In the afternoon, she practises dancing in the
children's centre. In the evening, she has flute lessons.
4 What does Amy do on Saturday? Write letters A-C in the blanks.
A She has English writing lessons.
B She has flute lessons.
C She practises dancing.
_________ ➔ _________ ➔ _________
1 This question asks about Amy's activities on Saturday. We need
to arrange the three events in the correct order.
2 Skim the text. The time phrase 'on Saturday' in paragraph 1
indicates this paragraph is about Amy's activities on Saturday.
3 Read paragraph 1 carefully. Look for time phrases and words
about activities. Pay attention to those activities that match
events A-C in the question.
4 From paragraph 1, we know Amy has (A) English writing lessons
in the morning. She (C) practises dancing in the afternoon. She
has (B) flute lessons in the evening.
(Answer: A ➔ C ➔ B)
Sometimes, there are fewer events in the question than in the text. Skim the
text and only look for events that the question asks.
