The Development Office is here to help OAs, families and friends stay
in touch with both King's College and King's Hall School. We produce
the bi-annual OA newsletter and run the OA website and sections of the
respective school websites. We also look after our online social media
community and encourage US OAs to join us on Facebook and LinkedIn.
Outline plans to visit the USA in May 2015 will require the help of our US
based alumni and friends; please do contact me to offer any assistance
you can for our plans.
The Archivist, Alison Mason, encourages OAs to provides copies of their
memorabilia to the Archives and is busy cataloguing the history of King's
since 1880. She is helped by Chris Warren OA, (Carpenter 1964) one
day a week and the Archives are a 'must see' department when OAs
return to school. Please do scan and send photos of Alison, or read back
copies of the Aluredian on the OA website.
The Development Office is also responsible for fundraising and this
relatively new activity at King's is based on an extraordinarily successful
decade of progress at King's College, with the completion of new boarding
houses, the construction of a world-class hockey facility and the Philip
Richards Building, providing a new library, IT suite, Careers Department
and Business Education Faculty. The new tennis and netball courts place
girls' sport at the heart of the school and our amphitheatre, opened in
2014, has provided an additional venue for music, drama, lessons and
meetings. The planned Sports Hub, due for completion in 2015 enhance
our already excellent sporting facilities and will provide more indoor space
for a wide range of sports.
We have completed a refurbishment of our boarding houses and there
is no doubt that our pupils enjoy one of the smartest and best-equipped
educational environments in the country. All this has been done through
prudent management and investment. However, in recent times it has
become apparent to us, as to many other independent schools, that in
order to sustain momentum, to continue to provide facilities of the highest
standards and to increase our ability to offer bursarial assistance we need
funds over and above those generated through fee income alone.
There is, therefore, a need to encourage and nurture a habit of involvement
and support amongst the King's Community of parents, OAs, staff and
friends, which has the long-term needs of the School and its pupils at its
heart. Exam results are strong and we have enjoyed national and local
success in many, many fields. We want to keep that momentum going, to
continue to think ahead and to make sure we remain one of the very best
schools in the country.
The Sports Hub will cost £1.5 million to build, with funding from the School
of £500,000 being added to the Sport England contribution, and the rest
coming from fundraising. The Hub will be built next to the swimming
pool and will include four county-standard indoor cricket lanes and a
large multi-sport area suitable for football, netball, fencing, basketball and
badminton, to name but a few. Local clubs will be encouraged to use the
facility when the King's programme allow. There are numerous ways to
support the project and the combined impact of many small gifts cannot
be underestimated. More substantial gifts can be recognised in line with
the donor's wishes, with naming opportunities, for example.
Please do look at our Sports Hub Appeal information and let me know if
you might support this, or other, projects and to offer more information
about our plans should you be interested.
