Alexander Pope's Grotto
Conservation works at Alexander Pope's Grotto
were completed in 2023. The grotto is the last
remaining part of his villa, which he built in 1720
on the banks of the Thames at Twickenham.
Demolished in 1808, the villa was replaced
and the property became the subject of
much redevelopment over the following
200 years. The grotto is now owned by
Radnor House School.

Turner's House
Turners House in Twickenham offers a
unique insight into the life of Britain's greatest
landscape painter, JMW Turner and is as
idiosyncratic and exceptional as any of Turner's
paintings.
Designed by Turner and completed in 1813,
the house was a quiet retreat away from the
pressures of the London art world to which he
would invite friends and indulge in his passion for
fishing.
