Teachers will never be replaced by a textbook, video or AI
because of the human qualities they bring to and nurture
in students. But it is essential that teachers continue to stay
curious about, connected to, and creative with their own
practices, in order to encourage these values in their maths
students.
84% of teachers reported they
had changed the way they
taught maths to support
remote learning (e.g. through
group and/or partner work),
indicating there has been a
huge shift in pedagogy37.
Inquiry
can support teachers to
realize goals such as adopting
approaches for teaching
mathematics which focus on
conceptual understanding as
well as procedural
knowledge38.
Standardized
testing
was a major barrier for
teachers who want to
transform their instructional
practice through inquiry39.
Professional
development
for mathematics teachers that
is intensive, sustained, and
content-focused can positively
affect teachers' pedagogical
content knowledge and
practices40.
