Moral Duties
Why spend so much time and effort on reducing and managing risk at
CooperVision? It's a good question and the answer comes in 3 forms.
Welcome to Environment,
Health & Safety
First Question: Why bother with Health and Safety?
Everyone has the right to leave work at the end of their
shift without injury or ill health caused by the work
activity or environment they work in. Health and Safety
is everyone's responsibility.
As documented in Health and Safety at Work Act
(HASWA 1974), "It shall be the duty of every employer
to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health,
safety and welfare at work of all their employees." At
CooperVision, we also have our own Health and Safety
Policy Statement which lays out our commitment to
your welfare, and it can be found in Agile.
Being safe saves money. Saving costs on fines,
compensation, training, temporary staff, court costs,
clear up, investigation, repairs, rework. This all adds
up and so prevention is the best method to save
money. There may also be a secondary loss of money
through loss of custom through poor reputation.
