US ROCKIES TRAIN ADVENTURE: Board the
Amtrak Empire Builder train on the Friday afternoon
for your scenic US Rockies trip to Chicago. The
train station is situated just 2.5 miles from the cruise
terminal and the train departs at 16:40. Spend
overnight on full board in a private sleeper roomette.
There are two levels to this train, including the
Superliner Sightseer Lounge Car. The upper level
has a bar with lounge area, a seating area with
tables and a separate observation seating area with
swivel seats. The lower level has a snack bar with
sandwiches, snacks, beverages and souvenirs.
Main meals are taken in the Dining Car. The
seating areas are situated on the upper level of the
train with impressive views. The menu offers a wide
variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including
vegetarian dishes.
The route takes you from Seattle through the
Cascade Mountains, Icicle Canyon, Spokane,
Glacier Park, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota
and Wisconsin to Chicago. Not only does this route
have breathtaking scenery but there is also an
amazing amount of classic North American History
in the area, such as Butch Cassidy & the Sundance
Kid, Chief Sitting Bull, the Wild Horse Stampede
and the development of the Great Northern Railroad
across the Rockies. There are lots of general interest
points, including the longest tunnel, the tallest
building, the largest building at the Boeing Factory,
the longest river, the biggest shopping mall, the
midway point between the Equator and the North
Pole, the home of Bing Crosby and one of only three
antipodes in North America! The train arrives in
Chicago at 1555 in the afternoon on Sunday.
