When a mother hare gives birth to her
young (called leverets), she leaves
them in different spots a few metres
away from where they were born.
This gives them a better chance
of survival, because if a
predator, such as a fox or
owl, found the hare's nest,
all the leverets would be eaten.
STRANGE FACT
HABITS
In early springtime, hares can
be seen chasing each other,
looking for a mate. They can
often be seen standing on
their hind legs and 'boxing'
each other! They are
sometimes called 'mad
March hares'!
