Come with animal action and celebrate Animal
You may have seen all sorts of awards ceremonies for music,
films, TV programmes, comedy and amazing people - well
now animals have got their very own awards!
The Animal Hero Awards celebrates brave animals, and those
that have overcome difficulties, as well as acknowledging
outstanding people who have made a difference to animal welfare.
Animal-loving celebrities including TV presenters Amanda
Holden and Paul O'Grady, Ashley Roberts from the Pussycat
Dolls and Ashleigh and Pudsey from Britain's Got Talent went
to the ceremony in London to celebrate the winners of the
2014 Animal Hero Awards.
Hooray for Henry
Henry, a deaf springer spaniel who overcame
years of neglect by his previous owner to
become a life-saving medical dog, won the
RSPCA Hero Animal of the Year award.
Henry saw off tough competition from
cats, dogs, parrots and a donkey to claim
the title Animal Hero of the Year.
Henry was terribly neglected by his
former owner, but happily recovered when
he was adopted by Julie Barrett. Sadly Julie
suffers from several serious illnesses and
Henry helped save her life by alerting Julie's
mum when Julie went into a coma. Clever
Henry has been taught sign language and
is an ambassador for the Deaf Dog
Network. What a hero!
The Animal Hero Awards is hosted by the Daily Mirror
and supported by the RSPCA.
