STARS
ON THE NIGHT!
Lots of celebrities came along to
join in the celebrations at a glitzy
awards ceremony in London.
Superstar Hayley
RSPCA Animal Welfare Offi cer
Hayley Plows won the RSPCA
Superstar of the Year Award.
She has worked for the RSPCA
for more than three years
protecting pets belonging to
vulnerable people, and often at
risk to herself. She also
fundraises for the RSPCA Central and
North London Branch and recently raised £850 by cycling 152
miles in a day! Wow!
And that's not all, in her spare time Hayley fosters animals that
may need to be socialised before being rehomed. She has also
looked after orphaned kittens, having them neutered and
feeding them - both feral and domesticated - every two hours
through the night before fi nding them loving new homes.
Hayley says: "The award means everything to me. I was up
against some really amazing people so I am humbled to have won.
"The whole team at the RSPCA branch work so hard, I love
working with them.
"I would urge anyone wanting to get involved with the
RSPCA or any animal charity to drop into their local branch as
most are desperate for volunteers - even just to cuddle and
spend time with cats. We can do our job and look after the
animals, but they also need human one-on-one interaction."
Dynamic Dominik
Hampshire teenager Dominik Reynolds won the Young
Fundraiser award.
Fourteen-year-old Dominik was the UK's youngest Royal
Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) volunteer aged nine
and has now launched Dominik's Wildlife Fund to raise money
for animal charities.
Animal lover Dominik helps out at the RSPB's centre in
the New Forest, doing everything from putting rings on goshawk
chicks to talking to the centre's visitors about the RSPB. He also
volunteers at the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (ARC)
centre in Lyndhurst, where he takes visitors on guided tours.
Last year he organised
a fundraising barn dance
and a sponsored trek,
visiting eight of
London's football
stadiums in one day,
by foot, bus and tube.
Brilliant work
and well done to
everyone involved!
