people, places like this are being ruined. As Alan Marsh, Brentwood's
arboriculturalist oficer highlighted to my friend, sites of
special scientific interest are degraded, when humans encroach.
The park is seen as a commodity to be "used", which it is by
too many, including me, but it's also abused with litter, noise and
wildlife disturbance.
Visitors to the Southern part of the park close to the A127
have been known to stream in en masse at weekends bringing
their own barbecues with them from the suburbs of London.
Ground cover has been set alight and detritus left behind. Gone
seem to be the days when sandwiches and a Thermos flask
would have sufficed. They now want a home from home.
I saw a ranger with a leaf blower on a Sunday morning disturbing
the peace at 8 am with its noise, I can only suspect that
he was clearing the path so that no one would slip on a dead
leaf or perhaps it was for easier pushchair access. These are
woods for Heavens sake. You should have to make an effort if
you want to enjoy them. Rangers drive around in trucks pow-
