The Wonder of Seeds
Chelmsford Road, Shenfield, in the
Borough of Brentwood six years ago.
We were pleasantly uplifted.
But it was not to last. The following
year saw no repeat of this enterprising
departure from the norm, The barren
grass returned, then repeated mowing.
At first Brentwood Borough Council
had risen slightly in public opinion only
for them to be demoted the following
year and thereafter.
Perhaps this seeding was a private
enterprise hoping to prompt the authority into an ecological stance. Maybe
Essex Highways are responsible for
verges or Essex County Council. But
B.B.C does have to maintain them.
It provides the facility and money for
grasscutting. But whoever is responsible, B.B.C should be making the case.
On this matter we have an administration not
quite joined up. There's room
for the Council to become a champion
of conservation, if it is so inclined.
