Our year 2014/15 | Sector focus
This has continued throughout 2014/15 with a number
of strategic recruits alongside key panel appointments
including Cornwall Council, City of Lincoln Council,
Marine Management Organisation, the Surrey
Framework and Worcestershire County Council, as
well as reappointments to the likes of the Homes &
Communities Agency panel and servicing existing panels
such as the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) and the
Welsh Government.
The team have attended, spoken or exhibited at over 60
seminars, conferences and exhibitions throughout the
year, where they have been updating people on areas
such as procurement, planning, commercial contracts,
criminal law and state aid to name a few.
Devolution of greater powers to the regions is likely to
be one of the most important issues for local authorities
in the near future as they struggle to provide services in
a landscape of continuing austerity. With this in mind,
we held a roundtable discussion attended by local and
central government leaders, policy influencers and
stakeholders and chaired by Sir Paul Jenkins, former
Treasury Solicitor, where the path to greater regional
devolution was discussed.
Based on our research, experience and the discussion
at our roundtable meeting, a report was produced
which outlined the key questions, themes and
recommendations which could assist both local
and central government in achieving a sustainable
settlement for devolution in England.

Despite the fiscal reduction measures affecting our clients, our public sector practice grew by over
25% year-on-year. Acting for over 150 local authorities and more than 15 central government bodies,
we have built a strong reputation for advising local and central government.
We have worked with Browne Jacobson for over a year now and we
have found their service and personal attention extraordinary. The
quick turnaround and high quality legal advice has always met our
expectations.
