I am delighted to welcome you to our borough after a
year when doors were often closed due to the
pandemic. Richmond upon Thames is a beautiful
borough in South West London renowned for its
green open spaces, rich history and ever popular
attractions.
Whether you're a local resident exploring the
wonderful array of amenities on your doorstep or a
visitor joining us to enjoy a day out - Richmond upon
Thames is delighted to welcome you.
By visiting Richmond upon Thames, you will be
exploring a part of London that is home to world
famous attractions such as Royal Botanic Gardens in
Kew, Hampton Court Palace and Twickenham
Stadium - the Home of English Rugby.
The borough has a wonderful array of historic houses
and hidden gems to explore. After spending time
here you will see why our famous past residents,
including artist JMW Turner and Alexander Pope,
chose to make Richmond upon Thames their home
and why Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII used their
palace at Richmond as a royal retreat.
In Twickenham you can visit Orleans House Gallery,
once home to both French and English aristocracy,
and marvel at the beautifully refurbished Octagon
Room. Whilst there, why not pay a visit to Ham
House or get lost in the rich musical heritage of Eel
Pie Island, where acts such as The Rolling Stones,
Rod Stewart and Eric Clapton all started their
careers.
Our borough has more green spaces than any other
in London, boasting 128 parks, commons and
woodland areas. As the only London borough that
straddles the River Thames, there are numerous
stunning riverside walks for you to enjoy. We also
have two beautiful Royal Parks - Richmond Park and
Bushy Park. If you visit one of the Royal Parks, why
not spend time exploring some of the many
independent retailers and sample some of the
wonderful hospitality venues in East Sheen, a short
walk from Richmond Park, or Teddington, which
neighbours Bushy Park.
While exploring the borough you might quickly forget
that you are still only a twenty-minute train ride from
central London. After a difficult couple of years, our
VisitRichmond Partners have worked tirelessly to
ensure they are ready to welcome visitors back.
Whether you're just passing through, visiting for the
day or staying put for longer, I wish you the warmest
of welcomes and hope you leave London's greenest
borough with lasting fond memories.
