It's my pleasure to welcome you to Richmond
upon Thames - one of London's most
beautiful and historic boroughs, where
heritage, culture and nature come together
along the banks of the River Thames.
Whether you're a local rediscovering what's
on your doorstep, a Londoner escaping the
city centre, or an international visitor seeking
a truly English experience - there's something
for everyone to discover at every turn.
From world-renowned landmarks such as
Kew Gardens, Hampton Court Palace, and
Allianz Stadium - the home of England Rugby
- to cultural gems like Turner's House, The
Poppy Factory, and the Royal Ballet School,
Richmond upon Thames is steeped in history,
creativity and sport.
We're also proud to be home to Richmond
Park and Bushy Park - two of the largest
green spaces in London, together spanning
more than 3,600 acres, roughly the size of a
London borough. Add to that Eel Pie Island
- birthplace of the 1960s British Blues boom
- and the Orange Tree Theatre, London's only
permanent theatre in the round, and you'll
find plenty to explore and enjoy.
While exploring the borough - whether on a
peaceful riverside walk or a scenic river cruise
- you might quickly forget you're just a
20-minute train ride from central London. We
invite you to explore not just our iconic
attractions, but also our charming high
streets, riverside pubs, local businesses and
welcoming communities.
This year, we're especially excited to mark
the Reaffirmation Twinning weekend in June
and to welcome the Red Roses Women's
Rugby World Cup matches to Twickenham
this September - just two standout events in
an exciting calendar.
However long you're staying, I wish you the
warmest welcome and hope you leave
London's greenest borough with lasting
memories.
