Many improvement options were discussed to
achieve the critical balance between the desire
for structural and amenity improvement and
heritage acceptability. The improvements can
be broadly split into the following areas:

The development of the scheme has
demonstrated that it is possible to provide
modern facilities within a historic environment
and that the key to delivering this type of
project successfully is to have clear objectives

The Lyme Regis Cobb project provides a good
example of the need for clients, designers,
funders, stakeholders and planners to be open
minded during the development of 'coastal
engineering' schemes.
They need to consider how wider benefits
can be delivered to leave a legacy of not only
coastal protection but broader accessibility,
social and commercial improvements for
future generations.
