9. Prior's Court School's policy and approach in relation to
anti-discriminatory practice in respect of children and their
families and the rights of children and young people.
All children and young people at Prior's Court School will be made aware of their
rights and how to access support, such as the Independent Visitor, their
Independent Reviewing Officer (if applicable), Children's Rights Commissioner
and Ofsted. This information is adapted to the young people's level of
understanding by our Speech and Language Therapy Team.
We place a high value on diversity in Prior's Court School and treat every
member of Prior's Court School as an individual. In this respect we aim to meet
the needs of all by taking into account differences in gender, ethnicity, culture,
social and religious backgrounds, as well as ability, needs and learning styles.
Implicit in the aims of Prior's Court School is the recognition that all children are
equal and are therefore entitled to the same opportunities of learning experience
within Prior's Court School. It is our intention that Prior's Court School does not
perpetuate stereotypes that undermine this aim.
Prior's Court School has an Equality of Opportunity policy for young people which
is fully integrated into all aspects of school life.
Prior's Court School promotes positive approaches to difference, fostering respect
for all people. Language or behaviour which is racist, sexist, or potentially
discriminating or damaging to any young person or minority group will not be
tolerated.
All young people at Prior's Court School are entitled to learning experiences
which will enable them to achieve their potential and which will enrich their lives.
The Waking Day Curriculum is planned to be relevant and interesting for all
children, and appropriately differentiated according to attainment and learning
style.
Specific needs determined by a young person's culture will be assessed as part of
his or her Essential Lifestyle Plan (ELP) and appropriate measures will be put in
place to ensure these needs are met.
The ethos of Prior's Court School supports the development of self-respect and
self-esteem in all young people and staff.
