Berewood pupils toast the heroes of Waterloo
Our new-build academy Berewood Primary School marks an
exciting milestone as it completes its first academic year and
what better way to celebrate than to join the local community
in commemorating the beginnings of Waterlooville itself - the
200th Anniversary of the famous Battle of Waterloo.
Headteacher Mrs Sue Patrick explained: 'To prepare for this
important anniversary the children learnt about the events
that took place on 18th June 1815 and why our town is named
after the town, now in Belgium, where the battle took place.
'There was a week of special activities for all our children to
enjoy including a Project 200 art workshop; collage, cooking
and drama activities; and a "red, white and blue day" when
the children came to school dressed in the colours of our flag
and shared a happy tea party together.
'We were delighted too to join in the Waterlooville Music
Festival celebrations at St George's Church when our newly
formed school choir performed for the first time in public!
They were accompanied by children from our key stage 2
class who have been learning to play the recorder and,
together with our friends at Mill Hill Primary School, I hope we
provided a happy addition for the Festival.'
